From Quiet Beginnings to Bold Narratives.

As a young, shy and introverted girl growing up in the southern United States, the world seemed to resound with a clear message to all girls like me: be timid, be passive, be quiet. But as I grew, I started to hear messages to the contrary. I learned about my grandmother, who raised four children alone in the 1970s and early 1980s while simultaneously achieving both personal and financial success in a male-dominated workforce. I watched my aunt leave an unhealthy marriage and start her own business. I cheered on my own mother as she chose to have a third child while running her own restaurant and successfully earning a law degree.

The women in my life are warriors who have fiercely pursued their dreams even while the world around them often told them to do otherwise. I emerged into adulthood with a different directive: be confident, be bold, be loud. As I earned degrees in journalism, political science and history, I found my own voice and the means to express myself through researching and writing on the topics that interested me the most. I was drawn to study various aspects of social justice, such as the lack of descriptive representation and gender parity in state legislature, gentrification and the affordable housing crisis, and Islamophobia and religious rights in France. With this education, my interests and passions expanded, as did my need to broaden my perspective.

After I graduated, I went to Paris to live for a year, working as an au pair. Empowered by this experience, I solo traveled for three months across Southeast Asia, New Zealand and Australia. These experiences tested me in many ways, from learning a new language and discovering new cultures to building new communities and being wholly responsible for myself. Throughout my time, I practiced effective communication, improved my problem-solving abilities and intensified my curiosity about the world.

Now, as I reflect on my path, it is evident that my background and experiences have equipped me with a unique perspective and a set of skills crucial for a career in marketing and communications. I am driven by a deep-seated desire to amplify diverse voices, challenge norms and communicate compelling narratives that resonate with authenticity. My journey has been a testament to the power of communication, and I am eager to channel my passion into a profession that allows me to continue breaking barriers and fostering understanding through effective storytelling.
